I work with many people who are navigating life in a brand new city.
Moving to a new country is always tricky. Finding a new job, home, career and set of friends is a challenge enough but experiencing lockdown in pandemic is a whole other story.
There will be days - probably many- when you are feeling overwhelmed, tired and low. That's a very normal reaction and spending a day in bed with a chocolate bar has its own merits.
In our pre-COVID life, marking our achievements as they related to career, business and family gave us a sense of progression, control and empowerment. However, given the global pandemic, it may be wise to reflect more on your emotional processing and resilience and count the small steps.
For example:
Acknowledging your anxiety takes courage.
Marking the day with events like breakfast or a walk creates a helpful structure.
Thinking creatively about your business, when your mind is mostly blancmange, shows focus.
Drawing upon the strength to be a present for your colleagues, followers, kids, neighbours or friends takes stamina.
Small daily achievements can have a big impact on your mental health and self-compassion is vitally important . Perhaps take advice from 1980’s Pop Band Fun Boy Three :-)
It ain't what you do - it's the way that you do it.
If you are keen to identify ways to make your daily life a little more workable, give me a call.
