Really good to speak with my dear friend and colleague, Clotilde Blanchet, about overcoming the fear of travel. Clotilde adores travel and there are not too many situations where she experiences fear. However, for many people, the idea of taking a trip away provokes uncomfortable feelings. They may worry about getting lonely, sick or lost or dread events like plane travel. In this video, Clotilde shares her attitude towards travel and we explore ways to manage fear from a coaching perspective.
Here are a few key points form our discussion:
Fear is a normal emotion
Remember that fear and anxiety are a normal human emotions. They can actually work for you in many situations. Fear can give you that extra exciting adrenaline rush to take on new experiences. The important thing is to know when fear and anxiety stops being helpful and actually begins to curtail your life. There are lots of strategies you can use to help you manage anxiety and fear
There are many good strategies available to travellers to help them manage anxiety. These range from mindfulness and CBT through to positive thinking. They key is finding the right technique for you.Being fearful and anxious about travel is not a personal failure.
Some people are lucky. They may have a naturally upbeat personality or they can draw on childhood experiences which encouraged them to acquire travel skills at an early age. In our interview, Cloe is a good example of someone who gained travel confidence from an early age. The good news is that you can build your resilience and strengthen your confidence at any age and learn to tame those huge emotions!
